FL-41 Glasses
FL-41 Rose-Tinted Lenses for Prescription or Non-Prescription Glasses
FL-41 is a rose lens tint first made for offices lit by fluorescent tubes. The “FL” stands for fluorescent. At Aoolia you can add it to [N] frames, see the tint on each one before you buy, and order it with your Rx or as zero-power lenses.
What Makes a Lens FL-41, Not Just Pink
FL-41 isn’t a shade name. It’s a filter, defined by how much light the lens lets through at each wavelength. The tint was first described in research in Birmingham, England, in the early 1990s, and it passes less blue-green light, around 480 nanometers, than a cosmetic pink tint of a similar depth. (You’ll also see it written FL41 or FL 41.)Two lenses can look identical and measure differently. In a 2009 University of Utah study, an FL-41 lens let through 63.8% of visible light on average, while a rose lens made to look like it let through 58.8%. Same color family, different filter. That’s why we publish the measurements for our tint instead of asking you to trust the color.
What Rose Lenses Change (and What They Don’t)(Rose Trade-Off List)
A rose tint shifts every color you see. That’s the point of it, and it has a cost worth knowing before you order.• Pinks, reds and light purples sit closer together. Take them off for makeup, picking paint, or matching clothes.• Color-coded work gets harder. Charts, maps and design files can read differently; check them without the tint.• People can see the tint. On video calls and in person, your lenses look rose. An anti-reflective coating cuts glare off the lens, not the color.• White looks warmer. Your screen settings don’t change; only your view of them does.• What doesn’t change: sharpness. With your Rx, the lenses are made to your numbers like any other Aoolia pair.
How to Order FL-41 Glasses at Aoolia
1. Pick a frame. Use the FL-41 Ready filter to see frames with larger lenses and rose-friendly colors.2. Preview the tint. Every photo on this page shows the FL-41 tint. Tap Try On to see it on your face.3. Choose Light or Medium. Use the light-source table above, and check the Tint Proof Card for the numbers.4. Add your Rx or choose zero-power. Zero-power lenses can be worn over contact lenses.5. Add anti-reflective coating. It cuts reflections from lights behind you bouncing off the back of the lens.
Frames That Work Best With FL-41
Any frame can take the tint, but some make better use of it.• Taller lenses. The more of your view sits behind the tint, the less untinted light slips in above and below. FL-41 Ready frames have a lens height of [H] mm or more.• Wider fronts and closer-set temples. They block more light from the side.• Colors that suit rose. Tortoise, gold, clear and black frames pair well with a rose lens; cool blue-grays can look flat next to it.
FL-41 Glasses FAQ
What are FL-41 glasses?
FL-41 glasses have a rose-tinted lens that lets through less blue-green light, around 480 nm, than a clear or cosmetic pink lens. The tint was first made for rooms lit by fluorescent tubes, which is where the 'FL' comes from.
Is FL-41 the same as a pink or rose tint?
No. FL-41 is defined by how it filters light, not by its color, so two rose lenses can look alike and filter differently. Our Tint Proof Card lists what our FL-41 tint actually lets through.
Can I wear FL-41 glasses while driving?
Not at night. Any tinted lens cuts the light you need after dark. For daytime driving, a dedicated pair of sunglasses is the better choice.
Can I wear FL-41 lenses over contacts?
Yes. Order zero-power FL-41 lenses and wear them like any non-corrective pair.
Should I choose Light or Medium?
Choose Light for all-day indoor wear under office lights and screens, and Medium for overcast days outside or very bright interiors. For full sun, polarized sunglasses are the better tool.
